
Mr. Datin has more than 20 years of experience in business development, sales and marketing functions in diagnostic, device and healthcare covering assignments throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He joined Safeguard as Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Life Sciences Group in September 2005. At Safeguard, Mr. Datin applies his broad industry knowledge to drive Safeguard’s investment and partnership opportunities within the healthcare industry, including molecular and point-of-care diagnostics, medical device, regenerative medicine and specialty pharmaceuticals. Mr. Datin is a board member of Safeguard’s partner companies Cellumen, Inc., Clarient, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLRT), Molecular Biometrics, Inc. Quinnova Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Rubicor Medical, Inc. He is also a member of Ben Franklin Technology Partner’s advisory board and is on the Celerant Consulting advisory board where he represents the Life Science and Healthcare practices. Prior to Safeguard, Mr. Datin served as Chief Executive Officer of Touchpoint Solutions, Inc., a provider of software that enables customers to develop and deploy applications, content and media on multi-user interactive devices, from December 2004 to June 2005; Group President in 2004 and Group President, International, from 2001 to 2003, of Dendrite International, Inc., a provider of sales, marketing, clinical and compliance solutions and services to global pharmaceutical and other life sciences companies; Group Director, Corporate Business Strategy and Planning at GlaxoSmithKline, from 1999 to 2001, where he also was a member of the company's Predictive Medicine Board of Directors that evaluated acquisitions and alliances; and Chief Executive Officer of Isuta Holdings Berhad, a publicly traded distributor and manufacturer of medical and clean room products, from 1997 to 1999. His prior experience also includes international assignments with and identifying strategic growth opportunities for E Merck and Baxter.
Mr. Davidson is a Managing Director of H.I.G. Ventures and focuses on investment opportunities in the life sciences sector. Prior to joining H.I.G., Mr. Davidson served as Vice President for Ventures West, with a focus on venture investing in life sciences companies. He began his career with Eli Lilly Company where he spent a decade in various management roles in the U.S. and Canada including business development, strategic planning, market research, and financial planning. After Lilly, he spent a year as the Vice-President of Corporate Business Development at SYN-X Pharma. Mr. Davidson's current board seats include Alder Biopharmaceuticals, Gemin X Biotechnologies Inc, HyperBranch Medical Technology, NeurAxon Inc., Novadaq Technologies, Inc. (public June 2005), Oncogenex Technologies Inc. and Tranzyme Pharma. In addition, Mr. Davidson served on the board of Salmedix, Inc. before it was acquired by Cephalon in June 2005. Mr. Davidson has a bachelor of commerce degree from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Mr. Day is a commercial development specialist, whose primary focus and expertise is the dermatology marketplace. He has held strategic sales, marketing, and management positions with major pharmaceutical companies, including Allergan Pharmaceuticals and Ferndale Laboratories. In 2000, Mr. Day founded Rx-Pharma Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical business with two licensed products ("Pandel" and "Pro-Q") and a delivery platform technology, "Restoraderm." After building a sales force and developing several products utilizing the Restoraderm platform, he successfully negotiated and consummated the sale of Rx-Pharma to CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., assuming the position of Vice President, Dermatology at CollaGenex. A key to Mr. Day's success in the pharmaceutical industry is his strong ongoing relationships with the members of the dermatology community and capitalizing on their experience and expertise during the development, launch, and sales of new products. These ongoing working relationships are the basis for building invaluable Advisory Boards, and Steering Committees and aid tremendously in the successful launch of unique prescription drug products.
Dr. Gallagher has been a member of the Board of Directors of CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on providing innovative medical therapies for targeted disease classes in high-potential markets, such as the dental and dermatology markets, since 1994. Dr. Gallagher also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of CollaGenex from April 1994 until his retirement in December 2003, and as Chairman of the Board until December 2003. From 1988 until joining CollaGenex, Dr. Gallagher was employed by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and its predecessor, Squibb Corporation, in various executive positions, including strategic planning, worldwide product and business development, and marketing. Dr. Gallagher was the vice president and general manager of Squibb Diagnostics, the in vivo imaging pharmaceutical division where he was responsible for drug development, including filing new drug applications with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory authorities worldwide. Prior to that, Dr. Gallagher served for 10 years with the EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. in a variety of pharmaceutical research, development, marketing, and business management positions.
Mr. Zisson is a partner of Thomas, McNerney & Partners. He joined Thomas, McNerney in 2002 and is currently a board member of Clarus Therapeutics, Inc., Tranzyme Pharma, Inc. and Zogenix, Inc. Before joining the firm, he spent eleven years in the research department at Hambrecht & Quist (and its successor firms Chase H&Q and JPMorgan H&Q). During his tenure at H&Q, Mr. Zisson led research teams covering the biotechnology, specialty pharmaceutical, large-cap pharmaceutical, drug delivery and diagnostic industries. After the merger of Chase H&Q and JPMorgan, he became the firm's Health Care Strategist. Mr. Zisson was named twice in The Wall Street Journal's All-Star Analysts Survey, including during his last year at JPMorgan when he placed in all three categories: stock picking (#1 in pharmaceuticals), earnings estimate accuracy (tied for #2), and 'home run' hitting (#8 across all industries). He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
